The Healthy Families program is offered by Peer Assistance Services at partnering community-based agencies and schools in the metro Denver area. Families are referred for a variety of reasons including alcohol and other substance abuse, homelessness, co-occurring disorders, family conflict, parents or children in trouble with law enforcement, and the need for social/human services assistance. There are several organizations that participate in the Healthy Families program: Head Start, Family Tree, University of Denver Health Sciences Center ARTS programs, Mi Casa Resource Center for Women and Kepner Middle School. This program uses Center for Substance Abuse Prevention evidence-based model programs including Nurturing Parenting and Partners in Parenting programs. For the children, the program uses Life Skills substance abuse prevention. Referrals for services are also provided for the family members. These models serve as the basis for improving family dynamics, while also assessing family members for other needs and referring them to the appropriate resource in the community. The Healthy Families program provides effective model parent and youth training, and also helps to identify and address other concerns that may interfere with the family members' ability to benefit from the training. The program offers an opportunity to understand and address the family's needs with a comprehensive approach that takes into consideration all the contributing factors. The Healthy Families program is offered by Peer Assistance Services and recruits agencies and schools interested in hosting classes. Agencies and schools who host classes are responsible for entering into a site agreement, recruitment of participants and facility space for classes. Sample Host Site Recruitment Flyer
