Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention Program
The Healthy Relationships Program partners with community agencies in the Denver and surrounding areas to provide relationship education to strengthen low-income families and communities by improving the quality, stability and longevity of relationships. The program helps to strengthen current relationships and promote healthy, committed relationships for couples; provide singles with skills to make good partner choices; provide skill training that enhances relationships in areas predictive of success; and to foster healthier relationships which benefit the individual, couples and families.
Curriculum
- Within My Reach®: Adapted from PREP program model for low-income individuals who are single or in a relationship to attain relationship success for themselves.
- Within Our Reach®: Adapted from PREP for low-income couples attending together to achieve goals in relationships, family and marriage.
- Caring for My Family: Designed to help mothers and fathers of young children build healthy relationship skills for parenting, making healthy decisions and strengthening the family unit.
The program is derived from the research surrounding The National Healthy Marriage Initiative which has shown that healthy marriages have these benefits:
- Most men and women in healthy marriages live longer, have better mental and physical health, report being happier—and build more wealth.
- Children raised in healthy marriages are more likely to attend college and succeed academically—and less likely to engage in delinquent behaviors, abuse substances or divorce
- Communities with a high percentage of healthy marriages have higher rates of healthy and educated citizens—and lower crime rates or needs for social services.
